Movie Review: The Hunger Games: MockingJay
This movie isn’t finished. It’s biding the production company’s time and costing moviegoers $12.50 to watch Jennifer Lawrence pout and run around with a massively convoluted and stupid plot for 123 minutes.
Stars: 0.5 out of 5
What to bring to the theater: Nothing, don’t go at all
How long this movie feels: 5,000 hours
There is no defendable reason the Mockingjay is split into two parts. The book was written with the arc of a single story, and by splitting the book into two films, we’re left with a film that lacks the necessary pacing and rhythms of a self-contained story. This is a half of a movie, and it doesn’t benefit from being split in half in any way. The plot is stretched thin in Part 1 of the Mockingjay and it is transparently done for commercial purposes. Recommending this film is like recommending someone read the first half of a novel. If you haven’t seen it, you’re best off waiting until Part 2 comes out and watching them together. I’d go into the acting and the plot too but half of a film gets half of a review.
Stars: 1/5 out of a possible 2.5/5
How does it compare to other Hunger Games films?
